92 NOT OUT !
On Friday 18th. May, 2012 we celebrated the 92nd. birthday of Tommy Watkins.Tommy and his family and friends got together for a little celebration at Brighton Bowls.
For those of us who feel we are getting old, we should take a good look at Tommy - still "AS FIT AS A MALLEE BULL" he is an example to all of us. His best friend Beverley put pen to paper and wrote a superb tribute to Tommy, summarizing his life, which was read by Norma Bouveng. Tommy's daughter Shirley, and old friend Beryl Blacker also paid tribute to Tommy. Below is a slideshow of some pictures taken of the occasion.
Happy Birthday Tommy - May you have many more of them !

Lee Crowell's Farewell
On Friday 16th. March, we gave Lee Crowell our security man, a sendoff, as he prepared to serve his country, and leave for Afghanistan for a six month term on the following Tuesday.
Lee has been a very popular "Bouncer" at Brighton Bowls for around 18 months, and club members and friends got together to make a presentation to him, and wish him safe keeping and a safe return to both his family, and Brighton Bowls in six months time.
Below is a slideshow of pictures taken at the presentation to Lee.

Australia Day 2012 at Brighton Bowls
An absolutely great day was had by all on Australia Day at Brighton Bowls - as the slide shows below prove.
We had visits from all our local public representatives, Vicky Darling MP, Cr. Victoria Newton and
Deputy Prime Minister, Wayne Swan MP.
Indoor Activities on Australia Day
...and while all this was going on somebody was taking photos of the outdoor activities, but unknowingly, with the digital camera set to black and white. Actually, that's the latest trend nowadays - like fashion going full circle. It also caters for those that are colour blind. Take a look and see what you think.

Presentation Night 2011
Presentation Night 2011, was held at Brighton Bowls on Saturday night 17th. December. The night was literally a sellout with the function room full to capacity.
With entertainment provided by Bad Habitz (and several attendees), and superb food laid on by Wild As Bistro, a thoroughly enjoyable night was had by everybody.
Proof of this can be seen in the slideshow below. Special thanks goes to Maree Geiger who put a lot of work into organizing the night.

Members will have noticed a new and friendly atmosphere in our bistro, since Paul and Ali took over in the kitchen.
Paul and Ali are professionals, who after 20 years operating businesses throughout Australia, have decided to take a career break and indulge in their passion for Food.
While many at 40 go the sports car option, they weren’t able to find one to fit all 4 of their children into, so they have opted for travel in search of foods and wild flavours of Australia. This hasn’t deterred the kids from staying at home, so they have brought their family focus to the Brighton Bowls Bistro along with a range of food favourites to brighten up the Bistro and tempt your appetite.
While Ali may profess to dream about food, you will certainly find that she lives and breathes every concept and comfort that a good meal will bring to you. Paul is the explorer, hunting down the best flavours local produce has to offer and planning most waking hours around food safaris throughout Australia. There’s just so much out there to tantalize the taste buds.

Barefoot Bowls
Despite public
opinion, the game of bowls is not just for retirees. Take a look at
interstate and international competitions and you will see many young
people representing their club, state or country. In recent years many
bowls clubs have started barefoot bowls days, in an attempt to promote
the game of bowls to the general public, while having fun at the same
time.

Brighton Bowls is no different.
On the first Sunday of every month, we have Pepe's Barefoot
Bowls day, which is open to the general public. Pepe (Peter Pringle)
started his barefoot bowls day many years ago, and it has been going
from strength to strength.
Sadly, Pepe passed away unexpectedly, however we intend to keep Pepe's Barefoot Bowls Day going in his honour.
You do not have to
have
any special clothes or footwear - just come along at 9:30am and
register your name with $8. For your $8 you will get 3 hours of fun, be
supplied with bowls and some basic coaching and after the bowls we have
a B.B.Q.
For the final hour we have a "Touchers" competition in which, you win a beer every time you bowl and touch the jack ("kitty").
We also have a highly coveted trophy - "The Feral of The Month", which is awarded each month to the person who committed the most silly, outlandish or stupid act during the morning's barefoot bowls. Competition for this award is fierce, and much pride is taken by the winner in being photographed with the trophy. Photos of recent winners are shown in the accompanying slideshow.
Feral of The Month Winners
You can even have a drink while you are playing. It's the best
family fun you can have on a Sunday morning for $8 per head. For safety
reasons, children must be over 12 to play.
