Meals on Wheels (MOW) is a not-for-profit, community-based volunteer organisation working throughout Queensland. Since 1956 it has been helping the elderly, disabled and infirm to live independently in their own homes by delivering meals to them each week day.
In Queensland, over 15,000 volunteers deliver approximately 10,000 meals a day throughout the state. Volunteers who deliver meals also provide daily contact and a friendly face for many isolated people.
The approx 160 Centres throughout Queensland, range in size from delivering 10 meals per day up to 500 meals per day.
Sandgate MOW delivers around 80 meals per day.
MOW is a community service operating with assistance from the Home and Community Care (HACC) Program, which subsidises 11 - 15% of costs, and some capital funding for buildings and equipment.
By far the largest contributors are the volunteer force, and there is always room for more.
If you would like to volunteer to help, please contact the Sandgate kitchen on 3269 2073. Thank you !
